I began my career in education as a para professional at a Charter High School in Lubbock in 1999, and after 8 years of teahing History, Government, English Literature and various electives, I there left to work with Children's Protective Services in Houston. I lasted 1 year before I left to be closer to my son and my new grandkids in Florida. While there I returned to school to earn my Master's degree so that I could do what I loved. Which was help kids navigate their world and explore career opportunities available to them.
I am divorced, from a very short marriage, 1986-1988. I have one son, Evan who is married with 2 kids of his own, he and his wife, Kat, have been married since 2007. My grand kids are Aurora and Zane, and they live in Bartow, Florida. I live with my mother, Dr. Pat Nickell, and two very spoiled cats named Persia and Nixon, and a dog named Copper. My father, Melvin Nickell and my brother, Kelly live and work in the Lubbock area. They visit often, and I am lucky to have them all in my life.
